Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is The Roman Holiday Rule a retelling of the movie Roman Holiday?

No. The main characters believe that the film’s premise and point is that you can’t fall in love with someone who lives somewhere else and expect a happily-ever-after. When they find themselves falling inconveniently in love, they have to decide if they’ll find a way around the rule or not.

2. Is The Roman Holiday Rule a clean read?

Yes. This is a no-spice, closed door, no profanity book. Kissing only.

3. Is The Roman Holiday Rule light-hearted?

Yes. This is a romantic comedy, and while the grief after her mother’s passing a year ago (off page) deepens Lexi’s experiences, her journey is mainly one of falling in love, pranks, bets, and exploring Italy. There is a happily-ever-after ending.

4. Is The Roman Holiday Rule the author’s debut novel?

Yes.

5. When is Andra Loy’s second book releasing?

Her next book, a standalone rom-com set in Paris, France, will release with Haven in summer of 2027.

6. What is the Roman Holiday rule?

In the book, the characters Mark and Lexi believe that the film Roman Holiday proves that you can’t fall in love with someone who lives somewhere else and expect a happily-ever-after. Thus, their holiday romance is doomed from the start, as was Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck’s characters in the film.

7. What is speculative romance?

Speculative is an umbrella term for all fiction with elements outside of reality, including sci-fi, fantasy, magical realism, dystopian/futuristic, etc. Mary Poppins and Star Wars are speculative. Andra’s books tend toward the lighter side of speculative with just a sprinkle of magic, time travel, magical realism elements, etc, giving the romance and humor the spotlight with just a little extra spark thrown in.

8. Did Andra Loy travel to Rome?

Yes, she took a trip there in 2023 with her family and visited all the sites in the story except for the Aventine keyhole, which she didn’t know about until researching for The Roman Holiday Rule. Oops.
